St. Louis’s rich history is layered. Each layer — whether the French pioneers establishing St. Louis as a river trading post, or Greek immigrants building a movie house chain, or German-Americans putting on the uniforms of the American doughboy — has left an imprint on the city. This Used to Be St. Louis is a fun trip through those layers of history following the stories of individual streets, buildings and parks. It includes: the glamorous, urban lofts that had been the factory manufacturing ball turrets for WWII Air Force bombers; the mop factory where German-Americans once made a fortune; the urban forest that was once Kerry Patch.
